From its charming and angst-ridden first season to the darker, apocalyptic final one, Buffy the Vampire Slayer succeeds on many levels, and in a fresher and more authentic way than the shows that came before or after it. How lucky, then, that with the release of its boxed set of seasons 1-7, you can have the estimable pleasure of watching a near-decade of Buffy. Most episodes feel as harrowing and as richly drawn as they did at first viewing and they offer an escape from the viewer’s workaday world and entry into one in which the heroine (ideally one with leather pants) overcomes demons far more troubling than one’s own.

Instead of forgetting uncle Larry’s gift again this year… just add everyone’s name or gift idea to this list and check them off as you pick up gifts. You can also use it for daily grocery shopping, etc.

101Cookbooks - Not sure what to cook for all those distant relatives who will be visiting you this year? Install this app, and you will have more recipes than you need while you are scanning the aisles at your local supermarket. Turkey all sold out? No worries, you can look up a quick chicken or duck dish in an instant.

iPling - If you are out on your own and don’t plan on travelling or having any relatives over, then check out this app. A self-proclaimed ’social expansion engine’, iPling allows users to find others who share similar interests. Once you find that special someone, they also help you meet up in real-life after sending anonymous text messages.

Expense View - This little app isn’t as fun as the others, but after a long few weeks of spending and splurging… you’ll need this handy iPhone app to see how much money you have left over in case you wanted to get something for yourself. You even get a nice pie chart to analyze where all that money actually went.
